Katarzyna Szymkowiak

Katarzyna Szymkowiak – a graduate of the Vocal and Acting Department of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music, where she studied voice with Professor Izabella Kłosińska. A participant of the Young Talents Training Program – Opera Academy at the Teatr Wielki – National Opera in Warsaw, where she trains under the guidance of many outstanding artists.

She made her operatic debut in 2016 at the Warsaw Chamber Opera as Isabella, the titular character in G. Rossini’s “L’italiana in Algeri”, directed by Jitka Stokalska. She then reappeared on the same stage as Angelina in G. Rossini’s “Cinderella”, receiving critical acclaim.

During her studies, Katarzyna Szymkowiak performed as Cherubino in “The Marriage of Figaro”, Dorabella in “Cosi fan tutte” by W. A. Mozart, and Jadwiga in “The Haunted Manor” by St. Moniuszko, which was also staged for the Polish diaspora in Chicago and at the Melody of Yangtze River Festival in China. She also appeared in productions of the Opera Academy at the Teatr Wielki – National Opera, such as “Cracovians and Highlanders” by J. Stefani and W. Bogusławski, an adaptation of W. A. Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” for children, “About the Kingdom of Day and Night and Magic Instruments”, as well as in “The Secret Life of Paintings”, the operatic piece directed by Ewa Rucińska. She also participated in many educational projects, including “Opera? Si!” of the Baltic Opera, “Snack Opera” of the Warsaw Chamber Opera, and the “Little Philharmonic” of the National Philharmonic.

Her recent highlights include performances in chamber, oratorio, and gala concerts. She has appeared as a guest artist on albums with the Romuald Traugutt Philharmonic, including the “Songs of the Warsaw Uprising”, “Polish Patriotic Carols”, “Hello May Dawn”, and on an album with Moniuszko’s songs and duets, “Moniuszko – Songs vol. 3”, released on the Pawlik Relations label.

Katarzyna was a finalist of the Académie de l’Opera National de Paris auditions. Currently, she works with the Teatr Wielki – National Opera. Her notable roles include Sister in S. Prokofiev’s “The Fiery Angel” directed by Mariusz Treliński, which was also shown at the Festival d’Aix en Provence as well as Sophie in St. Moniuszko’s “Halka” (Vilnius version) directed by Agnieszka Glińska (in collaboration with the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic). In the 2020/2021 season, she made her debut as the Lady in the new staging of P. Hindemith’s “Cardillac” directed by Mariusz Treliński.
