Born in 2003, Gabriel Michaud is an instrumentalist with a number of prestigious awards to his credit: in 2022 he won first prize, the audience award and the critics’ award at the prestigious TROMP Percussion Eindhoven international competition, as well as second prize at the Luxembourg International Percussion Competition with his Trio Fragments (no first prize was awarded). Gabriel Michaud started playing percussion at the age of 7 and entered the Nantes Conservatory at the age of 11. Passionately committed to jazz, he played in several bands during his years in Nantes including the ODC 5tet, the Rémi Pardigol Trio and, since 2017, the Triptych Trio. He went on to study classical percussion at the Haute École de Musique de Genève, from which he graduated with honours in 2023. He is currently pursuing his master’s degree at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris. Laureate of the Marescotti Foundation in Geneva in 2021 and first prize winner at the International Marimba Competition in Pollença, he has already performed on many stages, including the Philharmonie de Paris, Shanghai Conservatory, Musikgebouw in Eindhoven, Victoria Hall, Les Jardins Musicaux, Archipel Festival, Puplinge Classique, Pollença Trobada de Percussió (Spain), and La Folle Journée in Nantes. Since 2021, he has also been an additional percussionist with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande. A complete and eclectic musician, he also fulfils himself as a composer by writing for chamber ensembles. He composes electronic music as part of the rap collective Codex Dissident. His first duo album with his sister, saxophonist Valentine Michaud, will be released by Mirare in 2024.
